Andrea Vilhena was born in 1982 in Klagenfurt, Austria, and she is currently living and working in Lisbon, Portugal.
After a three year course in Contemporary Jewellery she completed a BA degree in German Literature and a MA in Cultural Anthropology at Goldsmiths’ University in London. These courses allowed her to study a range of topics and working methods that subsequently became the subject matter of her sculpture work.
She is currently undertaking a Masters Degree in Journalism where she explores common practices of the artistic and the journalistic fields. She argues that art increasingly shares the journalistic agenda of “examining unseen corners of society” and, due to the shared use of digital media, both fields have gained common ground.
She interprets and explores all this in her sculptures, giving form to anthropomorphic creations that talk about the stories of the people that must be told.
